Made with three simple ingredients, using Lemonade Ice Cubes is my secret to avoid a watery beverage. Make your lemonade more flavorful with this easy hack!

A glass with lemonade ice cubes and lemon slices.

Lemonade Ice Cubes are perfect to have with brown sugar lemonade, and combined with black tea ice cubes, makes my Earl Grey lemonade even more perfect to enjoy during a scorching summer day.

    🍋Ingredients

Ingredients of this recipe in glass bowls: water, lemon juice and sugar, along with an ice cubes tray.

Lemon juice. Fresh squeezed lemon juice gives a better taste to lemonades and these ice cubes. Remember: these ice cubes will melt and add flavor to the drink they’re icing.

You can substitute lemon juice with lime juice.

Sugar. You can use white sugar (caster or granulated), as well as brown sugar (light or dark). The last is great if you’re using these for a brown sugar lemonade, or if you want to add a caramel layer.

Ice cube tray. I'm using a regular 12 cubes ice cube tray that holds 2 cups of liquid, but you can use any ice tray you have. The size of the cubes can make freezing time vary: smaller will freeze in less time, while big cubes will take longer to be ready.

🫗How to make lemonade ice cubes

This recipe makes enough to fill a regular 12 cubes ice tray (2 cups). You can double or triple it easily directly on the recipe card.

Sugar, water and lemon juice in a glass with spoon.

Step 01. Stir together lemon juice, water and sugar.

Lemonade in a glass with spoon.

Step 02. To make the sugar dissolve faster, microwave the water for 30-40 seconds or until warm (sugar dissolves more easily in warm water).

An ice tray filled with lemonade.

Step 03. Pour the lemonade over the ice tray, filling it. Store in the freezer for 7 to 8 hours, or until frozen.

A glass bowl with lemonade ice cubes.

Step 04. Fill a glass with lemonade ice cubes and pour your favorite lemonade over it, or place in an airtight container and store in the freezer for later.

    ✔️Expert Tips

Make it sugar free. You can use your favorite sweetener or omit the sugar completely.

Caramel notes. Make it using brown sugar, light for a milder caramel taste, and dark for stronger.

Mint twist. Add a mint leaf to each ice cube.

    🙋🏻‍♀️FAQ

How long does it take to freeze lemonade ice cubes?

They take about 7-8 hours to fully freeze.

Can I make lemonade ice cubes with store bought lemonade or lemon juice?

Yes, you can use any lemonade to make these ice cubes. I, however, prefer to make it with fresh lemon juice for the best taste.

    How to store ice cubes?

To prevent any off-flavors, I store ice cubes into an airtight container. Wait for them to freeze, remove ice cubes from the tray and store in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag.

    🍹Where to use it

These ice cubes are delicious to have with any lemonade - like a Thai Tea Lemonade - and an easy way to flavor water. For lemonades, here are some of my favorite suggestions:

    • Two glasses of Earl Grey Lemonade, with lemon slice and glass straw.
      Earl Grey Iced Tea Lemonade
    • 2 cups of blood orange lemonade, with blood orange slices garnishing
      Blood Orange Lemonade (Winter Lemonade)
    • three glasses of coffee lemonade decorated with lemons and orange slices, filled with ice, coffee beans and ice on the background,
      Coffee Lemonade (Sweet and Refreshing)
    • Brazilian lemonade server on a tall glass with lime slice and ice cubes.
