- 1 baguette sliced (about ¼ inch thick)
- ¾ cup extra-virgin olive oil
Preheat your oven to 400°F, middle rack.
Slice the baguette or your bread of choice into ¼-inch thick slices.
Place the slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides with olive oil.
Bake for 12 to 16 minutes, turning them over halfway through cooking. They’re ready when they’re golden and crispy.
Let the crostini cool on the baking sheet before storing. Add your desired toppings just before serving.
When slicing the baguette, make sure the slices aren’t too thin or too thick. Thin slices may break under the weight of toppings, while thicker ones can be hard to bite.
For extra crispy crostini, bake for 16 minutes. If you prefer a softer texture, bake for 12 to 14 minutes.
Avoid substituting olive oil with cooking oil, as it affects the flavor and texture. If you want to switch things up, you can use butter instead of olive oil. Just be sure the butter is at room temperature for easy spreading. You can also experiment with flavored olive oils for an extra layer of flavor.
