Ingredients

Syrup

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Latte

  • 1 ½ cup steamed milk
  • 2 ounces espresso or strong brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoon cinnamon dolce syrup
  • whipped cream for topping

Instructions

Making the syrup

  • In a saucepan, mix all ingredients: brown and granulated sugar, water, vanilla extract and ground cinnamon.
  • Cook using medium-low heat, until all sugar is dissolved.

Making the latte

  • Steam and froth the milk. Frothing the milk gives you a creamier, silkier latte: you can use a milk frother, a steam wand if you have one, or even a french press.
  • Prepare a double espresso or strong coffee. Prefer to use freshly brewed coffee. Coffee will always taste better when using fresh coffee beans to brew.
  • Mix coffee and syrup. Use 1 tablespoon of syrup for a less sweet version, 2 tablespoons for a version as sweet as the one at Starbucks.
  • Add steamed and frothed milk.
  • Top beverage with whipped cream, a dash of ground cinnamon, and a drizzle of cinnamon dolce syrup. Serve right after making.

Notes

Thicker Cinnamon Dolce Syrup (for drizzling):
  • Use medium-high heat until the mixture boils, then turn the heat to low, stirring constantly. That prevents the sugar from burning.
  • Cook for 8 to 10 minutes using low heat. Syrup will thicken more after cooled. Refrigerate this syrup in a bottle or jar with lid after cooled.
If you want this latte unsweetened, whip ⅛ teaspoon of cinnamon to the milk before steaming.
Brewed Coffee Tips
  • Go with a darker roast. A dark roast will give you coffee a stronger flavor. That happens because in a dark roast, the beans are roasted for longer: the longer, the stronger the flavor gets.
  • Change water-grounds ratio. For dripped coffee, the recommended amount of grounds to water is 2 tablespoons to every 6 ounces (177ml). Try 3 tablespoons to the same water amount to a stronger coffee.
