Chocolate Cream Cold Brew is a Starbucks inspired drink, amazing for summer, with a delicious combination of chocolate, cream and coffee.
Starting this May, Starbucks announced a new drink in the menu, specially developed for the summer of 2022. This sweet cold brew beverage is made with a combination of Starbucks cold brew, vanilla syrup and chocolate cold foam cream.
Chocolate cold foam cream is a Starbucks copycat similar to the vanilla version used in the Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew: super easy to make, and in this recipe, you can choose between making it with chocolate malt powder (like the one used in the Shaken Almond Milk) or chocolate powder for those who prefer it without the malt flavor.
How does it taste?
Malted chocolate has this power of transporting you back to childhood summer memories, right? This beverage is a classic combination of chocolate and coffee, and the foam brings the memory of chocolate malted milkshake. The drink is also compared to a liquid version of the malted milk ball candy, Whopper.
It has a malted, nutty flavor, not as sweet, and more watery than creamy, since the base is made with cold brew with no milk in it. The chocolate is only in the cold foam, and the drink can be made without the vanilla syrup for an even less sweet version.
What are the ingredients?
Chocolate Cream Cold Brew is made with easy-to-find ingredientes, so you can have your version of this Starbucks summer drink with little effort. All you need is:
Cold brew coffee: you can use Starbucks cold brew, or you can make your own cold brew coffee. Is the liquid base of this recipe.
Vanilla syrup: you can make your own vanilla syrup, or use store bought.
Chocolate cold foam: made combining heavy cream, milk and malted chocolate powder, the only ingredient that can be replaced here is the malted chocolate. Let’s talk about it below.
What is cold foam?
Cold foam is a cold, rich and creamy frothed mixture of milk and heavy cream. Flavors can be added to cold foam. This recipe, for example, uses malted chocolate powder to flavor it.
Can I replace malted chocolate for normal chocolate powder?
Are you in the team that doesn’t like malted flavored beverages? You can still have a delicious chocolate cream cold brew without any malt on it.
Instead of using malted chocolate, use normal chocolate powder for it. You’ll get a delicious and chocolaty cold foam and no malt flavor.
If the only thing you have is chocolate sauce, that can also be used instead of chocolate powder.
I don’t like to use 100% cacao for this recipe: it makes too bitter foam for me. But it works if you’re looking for a sugar-free version. If using it, ddd half the amount asked in this recipe.
How to make it
Preparing the base
Fill half a glass with ice cubes. Pour the cold brew until ¾ of the glass is full. Add the vanilla syrup and stir to combine.
Preparing the chocolate cold foam
In a french press, add heavy cream, milk and malted chocolate powder. Place the lid and move the plunger up and down, until the mixture doubles in volume.

I don't have a french press, can I still make cold foam without it?
Yes, you can! Instead of the french press, use a hand frother or a whisk (that one will take you some more time, but it is doable) to make the foam.
Can I make the Chocolate Cold Foam in advance?
I would not recommend making the cold foam in advance. By making it right as you’re about to enjoy this beverage, you’ll get a foam that is at the right textural consistency.
Tips for this recipe
- You can replace the vanilla syrup for the syrup of your liking. That way, you can customize your drink. I love adding this brown sugar syrup instead of using vanilla syrup.
- Want it sweeter? Double the syrup if you`re looking for a sweeter version.
- Want to make this drink creamier? Add a splash of milk to the cold brew coffee. Oat milk is an amazing choice for this.
- If using french press and doubling or tripling the recipe, remember to not overfill it. Fill only till halfway, as the mixture will double as it froths.
